Local teachers are turning the community’s support for them into a way to support those in need.
During tomorrow’s (Feb 14) strike by members of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario in the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, there’ll be a food drive.
Shirley Bell, president of ETFO for the KPR District School Board, tells us why it was important to shine a light on food insecurity.
Bell says it’s hard when parents are struggling to pay bills to focus on the extras like packing enough snacks or nutritious lunches.
The local union president also gave us an update on their escalating job action.
Bell says because of that, they’re going to have to keep the pressure on, which they are by joining the other three major teachers’ unions in a province-wide strike next Friday (Feb 21).
Bell adds that there will be 15 drop-off locations for tomorrow’s food drive – five in Northumberland, five in the Peterborough region and five in the Clarington region.
