COVID-19 has led to innovation across the province and the country, and, even in our own backyard.
Port Hope’s CpK Interior Products has invented anti-viral plastics to kill COVID-19.
Dr. Greg Farrar, head of research and development, tells us what led to this development.
Farrar says this work was all made possible through a partnership with Western University, where the anti-viral testing was conducted.
Dr. Farrar explains how the new hard and soft plastic will mean for consumers in the age of COVID-19.
And Farrar lays out what’s next for this this is patent-pending material that can kill COVID-19 on material surfaces in less than one hour.
Dr. Farrar adds that the team was able to invent, test and apply for a patent within 90 days of the ‘Healthy Cabin Initiative’ kicking off through Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
He adds it wasn’t a simple task as the team had to discover which materials could actively attack the DNA of coronavirus, but navigate quality and testing requirements for new automotive interior materials.
