International Women’s Day is today (Mar 8).
Paramedic chief, Susan Brown, became the first female in her role for Northumberland County in November 2020.
We had to ask how this feels as she reflects on the accomplishment.
Brown says becoming the chief has always been a dream of hers.
Are you a woman that looks up to Chief Brown? Well, if you want to follow in her footsteps, she uses this baseball analogy in her advice.
She ends by saying that it’s important to celebrate the girls and women, especially on this day.
Prior to accepting this role, Chief Brown spent the last five years as deputy chief of operations with Northumberland Paramedics.
Over the course of her career, Chief Brown has actively contributed to the evolution of the paramedic profession, and as the first female paramedic chief in the county, she joins the small but growing group of women who have achieved the highest rank in Ontario’s paramedic services.
