The Cold Creek Girls Hockey Association players must have been inspired by the recent Canada Women’s Hockey win because they brought home championship hardware and banners to hang in their arenas.
“We are so proud of all our girls,” said Andrea Riopelle – Dunkley – Volunteer with Cold Creek Comets Girls Hockey Association. “The U – 18 girls have had their best season ever, winning their tournament hosted by the Brampton Cougars in a 2 – 1 Shot out in overtime.”
The U – 13 Team also brought home a championship as well, after playing in a tournament hosted by the Ajax Bolts in Ajax and Pickering.
The Cold Creek Girls Hockey Association formed in 1999 because they saw the need for female hockey in our area. The association draws girls from as far away as Deseronto to Port Hope, including Cobourg, Prince Edward County and Quinte West.
Their teams are registered through the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA), a member of Hockey Canada. Currently our teams participate in the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League.
Tryouts for some teams start in April.
U-13 (formerly known as Peewee), U-15 (formerly known as Bantam, and U – 18 (formerly known as Midget) will all start tryouts on April 18th in Quinte West.
U – 9 (formerly known as Novice) and U – 11 (formerly known as Adam) will begin tryouts in September.
