Fleming College has added a new diploma program to its School of Health and Community Services. Registration is underway for the Respiratory Therapy Advanced Diploma at Fleming’s Sutherland Campus.
The six semester program, which starts in January, will see students train in a new respiratory therapy lab with state-of-the-art equipment.
The advanced diploma course can be completed in six semesters. Two 420-hour field placements take place during the final two semesters.
Once licensed, respiratory therapists can work in a variety of settings including hospitals, long-term care homes, and a family health team. In the Peterborough area, respiratory therapists have an average salary of about $78,000 per year.
The college administration says Fleming is addressing a projected shortage of qualified respiratory therapists over the next decade in our region – not unlike other parts of Ontario and the country.
