There will be no strike for education workers across Ontario and so kids will be in class on Monday.
Just after 5 p.m. Sunday, Education Minister Stephen Lecce announced a tentative deal had been reached although we’re still waiting for total details.
CUPE said both sides had agreed to a $1-per-hour raise each year, or about 3.59 per cent annually. The union was said to be looking for guarantees of higher staffing levels for educational assistants, librarians, custodians and secretaries, as well as an early childhood educator in every kindergarten classroom.
The deal is pending ratification by CUPE members.
We’ll provide more information as soon as it becomes available.
