Pickleballers in Port Hope now have another reason to look forward to the summer.
Northumberland/Peterborough South MPP David Piccini and Mayor of Port Hope Olena Hankivsky were on hand at the Town Park Recreation Centre to announce a $141,300 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, for three outdoor pickleball courts in Port Hope.
Hankivsky said it’s a great activity regardless of age or ability.
She also admitted that she’ll need a bit of practice to be ready for when the courts are finished.
That’s because Hankivsky and Piccini have a friendly match planned on the freshly installed courts.
They will be built by late summer, and a decision on the courts’ location will be made in the coming months.
Piccini said he pickleball is a great sport for anyone to take part in.
The dedicated outdoor courts will be available seven days a week from May to October to address increasing demand for outdoor activities.
