Debate on where to put the Northumberland Sleeping Cabins dominated last night’s Committee of the Whole meeting.
A resident of Ontario Street, Anita Turek, expressed concerns about the Sleeping Cabin pilot project.
Turek went on to say they were also concerned about the Northumberland Sleeping Cabin Collective’s alleged support of unsanctioned Overdose Prevention Sites and worried that the Furnace Street site could become one.
Concerns of liability, and safety were brought up by councilors as well, but Mayor Cleveland said it was Green Wood Coalition’s alleged support of illegal Overdose Prevention Sites that was tarnishing the project.
Missy MacLean was asked to leave council chambers for her outburst and in the end council voted NOT to authorize the use of the Furnace Street site.
