Oak Ridge Percussion from Colborne were the Canadian Drumline Association’s Ontario champions in Premier Class!
Music teacher Chad Morford told us about Oak Ridge Percussions win.
Cramahe students from grades 6 to grades 12 recently performed their drumline routine at the regional qualifiers in London and qualified to go on to the provincial finals, and recently secured the title of provincial champions in the Canadian Drumline Association’s Premier Class division on May 19th, 2023.
A drumline consists of marching snare drums, marching tenor drums, marching bass drums, and marching cymbals.
Morford describes for us, just what a drumline is.
“We had to rebuild the program after Covid,” said Chad Morford – music teacher at Colborne Public School. “But after winning 3 qualifiers, Oak Ridge Percussion won the provincial championship with their 5 minute routine, which is very dramatic and moves very quickly.”
Their final score a 77.5.
For anyone who enjoys a marching band, the drumline is the backbone of the band. They establish the beat, rhythm and groove. One might even say it’s the heartbeat of a marching band.
“We have students start with drumline who describe themselves as not musical,” added Morford. “Music teaches them perseverance, a good work ethic and builds their confidence as their skills grow.”
Congratulations to the Oak Ridge Percussion drumline from Colborne for becoming the Canadian Drumline Association’s Ontario champions in Premier Class.
