“Operation Clear Track” is the largest rail-safety initiative in North America, and Cobourg Police will be participating.
Led by Amtrak, Operation Lifesaver Inc., and Operation Lifesaver Canada, this initiative aims to reduce the significant number of rail crossing and trespassing incidents, which lead to over 2,100 injuries annually.
Cobourg, with five rail crossings weaving through residential neighborhoods, nature trails, and parks, underscores the critical importance of rail safety.
“Everyone should take the time to learn the risks associated with active rail lines and how to stay safe and protect themselves from potential injury. We look forward to raising awareness about rail safety this week.” – Constable Kyle Tobin, Cobourg Police Service
“Ignoring railway signs and signals, being distracted at rail stations or crossings, or using tracks as a shortcut or a recreational path can have tragic consequences,” said Sarah Mayes, National Director of Operation Lifesaver Canada. “Operation Clear Track’s goal is to encourage people to think twice before engaging in unsafe behaviours, and to learn how to keep themselves safe around tracks and trains.”
You can join Cobourg Police Service and CN Police Service on September 22 at Cobourg’s Via Rail train station for invaluable rail safety information.
