Cobourg Police Service Chief, Paul VandeGraaf, is expressing his frustration with the court system.
On Thursday, September 28, Daniel Tyler Foden was arrested and faced charges of Robbery With Violence, Uttering threats to cause death, and assaulting a police officer. He was detained for a bail hearing.
The accused was subsequently released on September 29th under certain conditions, which included not being allowed in the Town of Cobourg and adhering to a nightly curfew from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
However, on the very same day, Foden was apprehended again for causing damage to property at a construction site located in the north end of Town.
At 35 years of age, Daniel Tyler Foden was arrested once more, this time facing charges of Mischief and two counts of Failing to Comply with a Court Order, leading to another bail hearing.
Chief Paul VandeGraaf expressed his strong displeasure with the situation, stating, “This is utterly unacceptable on numerous levels. This individual was initially apprehended for committing violent offenses within a specific neighborhood in our community, which is already grappling with increased crime and victimization. This person assaulted and robbed a member of our community, as well as the police officer investigating the case. The court’s decision failed to prioritize the well-being of our community, the victims, or the police by allowing this individual back into our community with no regard for the consequences. Not even a single day passed before this person committed another offense in our community. This only exacerbates the frustration within our community regarding a system that falls short of our collective expectations.”
