From the Black Cat to the Buttermilk Café, or whether it’s Change Makers or the Fabled Bean – Cobourg has 12 independently-owned cafes/coffee shops in its downtown core that its locals enjoy. We heard from Carleigh Hunter at the DBIA about the ‘coffee culture’ in downtown Cobourg.
Cobourg is home to one of the last Ten Thousand Villages locations in Canada, and the only location in Ontario. Along with old favourites, Cobourg is expecting two new arrivals in Godshot Espresso and Rosarya’s Bakery and Café expect to push the total to 14. Hunter says the town’s café community supports one another.
Hunter also says the shop owners tend to promote each other. The coffee craze led the DBIA to launch “The Brews Cruise,” which incented ordering from a selection of nine cafes.
last year, the number of cafes grew by three locations. the DBIA also welcomed a new vintage clothing boutique. Hunter says the incoming shops represent a shift in the community.
As for coffee shops, Cobourg can anticipate the opening of Godshot and Rosarya’s Bakery soon. So, whether your cup is Americano or cold brew, give ‘The Old Hello’ to the coffee shops whenever you find yourself downtown. Don’t be scared – ‘Just Brew It!’
