Starting on Thursday April 18, your invited to take a spectacular journey with Dorothy and Toto as they travel from rural Kansas, over the rainbow, to the magical Land of Oz.
The VOS Theatre will be performing this classic tale at Victoria Hall beginning April 18 with matinee and evening performances through April 27.
Producer Florence Fletcher told us there have been relatively few bumps along the yellow brick road.
Fletcher said that from the first rehearsals at the church through set construction, props, make-up, choreography, right up to final rehearsals, the team has really come together and they’ve added some fresh faces this year as well.
One of those new people is Mackenzie Annis who plays the role of Dorothy.
Annis told us that tech week is one of her favourite parts during the journey from first rehearsal to finally putting it all together.
For Mackenzie a personal highlight has been the opportunity to work with her father who plays the roles of Uncle Henry as well as the Oz guard .
Mackenzie told us that she feels very lucky to have won the role of Dorothy, but it’s also been an unlooked for treat to work with the talented VOS Theatre group who all seem to know their jobs inside and out and have welcomed her to the “family”. She said that at every step, she has felt supported by the 32 cast members and especially by ‘Scarecrow’ Kelly Paron, ‘Tin Man’ Liam Cragg and ‘The Lion’ Dave Wilson.
Producer Florence Fletcher told us that tickets are still available for some of the matinees, and most of the evening performances. You can get them from the VOS Theatre website or directly from the Victoria Hall box office either by phone or on the web at:
The Wizard of Oz is a tale of growth for its main characters who realize their own individual strengths on their path to see the wizard. It’s a timeless tale that reminds us all, young and old that, “It’s not where you go. It’s who you meet along the way.”
