Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Bocking, provided a report to the Board of Health yesterday which included efforts to boost vaccinations for school age kids.
Dr. Bocking said that the pandemic put all health units in Ontario behind in the collection of records, as reporting was not enforced and so they’ve had some catching up to do.
Those students still not in compliance as of April 29 will be suspended from attending school as of May 14th, so it’s important to take action now if your child’s records are not up to date.
Once this round of vaccinations is complete, Dr. Bocking says they’ll be up to date so they’re working with school boards to get the message out.
That legislation, Ontario’s Immunization of School Pupils Act, mandates parents must provide records of their children’s vaccinations in order for them to attend school.
Bocking said that as of April 15th, 2100 students remain at risk of suspension unless they get their records updated by April 29.
