A 37-year-old man is facing weapon-related charges after Cobourg police say they seized several firearms during an investigation.
On Sunday, April 21, 2024, at about 8 p.m., the Cobourg Police Service said police were called to a disturbance at a residence in the Burnham and Burwash streets area.
During the investigation, police said they determined there were several firearms in the residence that were not safely stored and some that were unregistered.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 37-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, careless storage of a firearm, and two counts of careless storage of ammunition.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
“All firearms were seized pending the outcome of the court case,” said police, adding the accused was released on an undertaking with strict conditions and a future court date.
In their Monday release, police reiterated how firearms in Canada continue to be regulated by the Firearms Act and the Criminal Code of Canada. More information on the Canada Firearms Program, including safe storage practices and regulations, is available via rcmp.ca/firearms, reads CPS’ release.
Police provided no other details in their Monday release.
