You can rock out under the afternoon sky at the picturesque Proctor Park and help the Brighton Barn Theatre this Sunday, Aug. 18.
This Sunday, Terry Denyes says the Brighton All Stars Show Band plans to light up the outdoor Rotary Stage with an afternoon of rhythm and rock.
The 13-piece show band may also have a special guest coming out.
The plan is to put on a great show – but Denyes also hopes the concert will shine a light on the Brighton Barn Theatre.
“I feel it’s necessary to raise awareness and really try and help keep the arts alive in the community,” continued Denyes.
Any funds raised will help do just this – keep the arts alive in Brighton.
And just because it’s free doesn’t mean the show will be lacking. The band has been knocking it out of the park all summer, with recent performances at the Party in the Park in Presqu’ile and at the Cobourg Waterfront Festival, to name just a few.
Denyes tells us a little more about what people can expect from the band.
“We’re also expecting our good friend Ian Roy to show up (as a special guest),” added Denyes.
The set list contains a wide variety of music – the band loves making music for all generations, noted Denyes.
From Burton Cummings to the Powder Blues Band, to Chicago, Gloria Gaynor, and more, they’re all on the list.
The free concert starts at 2 and runs until 3:30/4 p.m. The theatre is in Proctor Park off Young Street.
If you’re planning on attending, “don’t forget your lawn chair.”
Brighton’s All Stars have both a show band and a concert band – the concert band is a 35-45 piece.
“All the musicians are from the local area, and we’re volunteers, run by volunteers. Nobody gets paid, everybody’s there for free,” explained Denyes.
For the group, it’s just about getting together with like-minded individuals and playing music for sheer pleasure, continued Denyes, noting they’re always recruiting.
“We’re always looking for people who play concert instruments. It’s something you never forget being in a band in high school or university, and it’s a lot of fun when you can keep doing it.”
The concert band practises Wednesday nights at the legion, and the show band rehearses on Tuesday evenings at Denyes’ house. Anyone interested in getting involved can email Denyes at terrydenyes@gmail.com.
