A Cobourg man is accused of brandishing a knife at municipal law enforcement officers during an attempt to issue a trespass order after a tent was set up on town property, say police.
On Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, the Cobourg Police Service issued a release saying the day prior – Wednesday, Sept. 25, at about 11:40 a.m. – police responded at the request of municipal law enforcement officers to a wooded area in the west-end of town.
According to police, municipal law enforcement officers had attempted to execute a trespass order for a man who had set up a tent on town property.
In response, the man allegedly brandished a knife and threatened officers, said police.
As a result of the subsequent investigation, police said they located, arrested and charged a 55-year-old Cobourg man with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm, and carrying a concealed weapon.
None of these charges or allegations have been proven in court.
The accused was later released on an undertaking with a court date of Nov. 6, 2024, reported police.
No other details were released by police.
