The Cobourg Police Service arrested two individuals for impaired driving in separate incidents on Wednesday afternoon, September 25, 2024.
Police say they responded at 3:45 p.m. to a report of a possible impaired driver found unconscious behind the wheel of a vehicle behind a downtown business. Officers located the vehicle and woke the driver, a 44-year-old man from Peterborough. Following an investigation, he was charged with Operating a conveyance while impaired by drug, Possession of a Schedule I Substance (fentanyl), Possession of a Schedule I Substance (cocaine), and Possession of a Schedule I Substance (unknown pills). The man was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on October.
In a second incident, at approximately 4:20 p.m. the same day, officers responded to another report of an unconscious driver near Havelock Street and George Street. Police say the driver, a 58-year-old Cobourg woman, was found conscious but impaired upon arrival. She was charged with the same offences as the first individual and also released on an undertaking with a court date set for October.
Cobourg police urge the community to stay vigilant and report any suspected impaired driving.
