A 41-year-old Campbellford resident is facing multiple charges after Northumberland OPP say they followed up on a tip from the public.
On Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, at about 2:05 p.m., police said they received a 911 call about a passenger vehicle travelling north on County Road 45 in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand.
“The caller advised the vehicle was swerving and unable to maintain its lane,” said police, in a release on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024.
Officers stopped the described vehicle on County Road 35 in the Municipality of Trent Hills, reported OPP.
Through investigation, police said the accused was found to be suspended from driving and subsequently placed under arrest. (There was a previously reported alleged incident on Oct. 4, 2024.)
On Saturday, police said they made an approved screening device (ASD) demand but allege the accused didn’t comply with the request.
Police further allege cannabis, and unmarked cigarettes were also found.
As a result of the investigation, the 41-year-old Campbellford resident was charged with failure or refusal to comply with demand, driving while under suspension, drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available, and possess unmarked cigarettes.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused was also issued a further 90-day administrative driver licence’s suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days, reported police.
Northumberland OPP are continuing to remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive and ask citizens report suspected impaired driving by calling 911 or OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
Police are also reminding residents that Crime Stoppers is an anonymous option by calling 705-745-9000 or submitting tips online.
