With International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, Northumberland County is inviting residents to join the Northumberland Accessibility Advisory Committee (NAAC).
The committee is seeking individuals with disabilities or related lived experiences to contribute their voices and insights toward a more inclusive community.
Andrea Nicholson, Accessibility Coordinator for Northumberland County, emphasised the importance of collaboration. “We’re looking for dedicated individuals passionate about making a difference and championing accessibility,” she said.
The NAAC plays a critical role in ensuring County programs, services, and facilities are barrier-free. Members collaborate with County staff and Council, using their lived experiences to shape policies and advocate for accessibility improvements.
NAAC Chair Bobby-Jo Preston explained the committee’s mission: “Disabilities are only noticed because our society is not fully accessible. By working together, we can create a community where everyone can fully participate.”
Residents interested in joining the NAAC are encouraged to apply online at Northumberland Accessibility Advisory Committee | Join In Northumberland by December 6.
Alternate formats of the application are available by contacting accessibility@northumberland.ca or calling 905-372-3329 ext. 2327.
This year’s theme, “Advocating for Accessibility, Together,” underscores the importance of collective action to remove barriers and promote inclusion for all.
