A winter weather travel advisory is in effect for the Northumberland and Quinte regions for this afternoon and through tonight (Monday, Dec. 23, 2024.)
Environment Canada says hazards include potential snowfall accumulations of 10 to 15 centimetres, along with low visibility in areas of heavier snow. Difficult travel conditions due to snow-covered and icy roads are also possible.
Snow is set to advance into the region this afternoon – becoming heavy at times – and through to night and/or early Tuesday morning. As the snow tapers off to flurries, there is also a risk of freezing drizzle, note officials.
Environment Canada also notes there is still some uncertainty with where the heaviest snow sets up as the system develops today, and that is possible upgrades to snowfall warnings may be needed.
“Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly,” reads the advisory.
Roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.
Drivers should be prepared for potentially quick changing and deteriorating travel conditions.
