During the fourth week of the Festive RIDE campaign, OPP officers across the East Region say they’ve made another 18 arrests related to alleged impaired driving.
This brings the total to 83 motorists charged with impaired driving since the initiative started on Nov. 21, 2024, reported OPP.
“Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs puts everyone at risk,” reiterated Chief Superintendent and OPP East Region Commander Lisa Wilhelm. “The safety of our community always comes first, so you can expect our officers will be out enforcing the laws, keeping our roadways safe.
“If you are celebrating throughout this holiday season, I urge you to make responsible choices. Let’s all do our part to ensure this holiday season is safe for everyone.”
As of Monday, Dec. 23, officers had conducted more than 795 Festive RIDE checks.
In addition to impaired driving arrests, officers have also issued 23 warning-range suspensions, resulting in those drivers being issued licence suspensions and having their vehicles impounded, reported OPP.
RIDE programs will continue through the holidays.
OPP continues to ask citizens who suspect someone is driving impaired to call 911 – you may save a life.
In Northumberland, YMCA’s Operation Red Nose is also an option to catch a safe ride home during the holiday season.
