A Campbellford resident is facing charges after a three-vehicle crash on Hwy. 7 in Cavan-Monaghan Township, say Peterborough County OPP.
According to OPP, the crash happened on Dec. 21, just before 10:30 p.m. on Hwy. 7, north of Morton Line.
Officers with the Peterborough Police Service also reportedly responded and helped in closing the highway and dealing with the crash.
OPP said they spoke with one of the drivers who stated they were travelling northbound behind another vehicle – a vehicle in front suddenly swerved as another vehicle travelling in the opposite direction crossed over the centre line resulting in the collision, reported police.
When speaking with the driver of the southbound vehicle, police said the individual was allegedly displaying signs of impairment and was arrested.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 33-year-old Campbellford resident was arrested and charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), drive vehicle with cannabis readily available, unsafe move – lane or shoulder, and fail to notify change of address.
None of these charges have been proven in court. The accused will appear in Peterborough court on Feb. 4, 2025.
The accused also had their licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days, reported police.
The occupants of one of the vehicles involved were transported to a local hospital as a precaution, noted OPP.
