On Saturday, January 11, at around 10:00 a.m., officers were called to Victoria Park after a man was observed assaulting a female. Police located the 46-year-old suspect and determined no injuries had been sustained. He was arrested and charged with spousal assault, before being released with a future court date.
Later that day, at approximately 5:15 p.m., another assault was reported in the same area. This time, the victim sustained minor injuries. The 37-year-old suspect was not located at the time of the incident. However, on Sunday, January 12, police on foot patrol in downtown Cobourg located the suspect. He was arrested without incident and charged with spousal assault. He, too, was released with a future court appearance scheduled.
Both cases highlight the ongoing efforts by Cobourg police to respond to intimate-partner violence and ensure accountability for offenders. The police continue to encourage anyone experiencing or witnessing domestic violence to report it immediately.
Both men have been released from custody and are expected to appear in court at a later date.
