Premier Doug Ford is expected to call a snap election next Wednesday, with sources saying Ontarians will head to the polls on February 27th.
According to the Canadian Press, two senior government officials who will remain anonymous say Ford made the decision recently after months of uncertainty about when to hold the rare winter election.
Although the election was initially set for June of 2026, it has been moved up as Ford has expressed the need for a new mandate to address the challenges of another four years under a Donald Trump presidency in the U.S. Opposition parties argue that an early vote isn’t necessary, pointing out that they would back stimulus spending and that Ford, with his majority, already has a mandate to protect Ontario’s interests.
