National Poison Prevention Week runs from March 16 to 22, urging Canadians to #CheckForPoisons and take action before accidents happen.
The annual campaign raises awareness about poisoning risks and promotes community involvement in prevention.
Health Canada encourages the public to explore available resources, including poison centres and the national POISON-X phone line.
The toll-free helpline – 1-844 POISON-X – connects callers to expert advice 24/7, helping prevent unnecessary hospital visits, easing pressure on the health-care system.
Poison centres in Canada handle more than 210,000 calls annually, resolving more than 60 per cent of cases over the phone.
Their support can be crucial in emergencies. Canadians are urged to save the POISON-X number and share it with family and friends – it could one day save a life.
