Northumberland OPP say a Cramahe resident is facing charges after an alleged incident involving a firearm.
Police said they received information that an individual was experiencing a crisis and in possession of an unauthorized weapon in Cramahe on March 31 at about 6 p.m.
When police arrived on scene, they said they were able to ascertain the weapon was a firearm.
As an investigation was initiated, police said containment was also established for the safety of those involved and nearby residences.
Due to the nature of the call, police said members of the emergency response team (ERT) and canine unit (K9) were also dispatched to help. Meanwhile, crisis negotiators (CN) were also engaged, and officers were later joined by members from the tactics and rescue unit (TRU), reported OPP.
At about 1:40 a.m., on April 1, 2025, officers said they took the individual into custody without incident, and they were transported to a local detachment.
The Northumberland OPP crime unit was also engaged to help with the investigation and execute a search warrant at the residence, added OPP.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 52-year-old Cramahe man was charged with possession of a firearm knowing a serial number has been tampered with, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
