A group of local physicians is making a major impact on Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre by matching up to $15,000 in donations for the Give a Gift from the Heart campaign.
The matching donation, led by Ed’s House medical director Dr. Kate Everdell will be a highlight of the Handbags for Hospice event on April 10 at the Best Western Plus Cobourg Inn & Convention Centre.
Every donation made to the campaign will be doubled, ensuring that funds go further in supporting end-of-life care for individuals and families in Northumberland.
“We are truly grateful to these local physicians for their dedication to improving end-of-life care in Northumberland,” said Trish Baird, CEO of Community Care Northumberland. “Their involvement as matching donors through Give a Gift from the Heart demonstrates their unwavering commitment to our community.”
The foundation extends its heartfelt gratitude to the following physicians with Heart for their generous commitment as matching donors:
Dr. Tapas Banerjee
Dr. Stephen Cornish
Dr. Marcus Cunningham
Dr. Fraser Cameron
Dr. Doug Dersnah
Dr. Mark Essak

The Handbags for Hospice fundraiser promises a lively evening with a silent auction, live auction, and prize draws, with proceeds supporting Ed’s House hospice care services.
Thanks to community support, Ed’s House recently expanded from six to 10 beds, allowing it to provide 24/7 care at no cost to families. Donations also support the palliative care community team, volunteer hospice visiting program, and grief and bereavement services.
