Northumberland OPP say they’ve laid multiple charges and seized firearms and ammunition following an intimate partner violence investigation.
Police said on March 29, 2025, at about 9:45 p.m., officers responded to a report of a disturbance at an address in the Township of Hamilton. Police proceeded to the residence where it was believed that firearms were inside, reported OPP.
When officers arrived on scene, police said they were met outside by a victim who had sustained minor injuries.
With information relating to firearms being involved in the incident, police said members of the OPP’s emergency response team, tactics and rescue unit and canine unit were called in to the location.
For the safety of residents in the area, police said containment was established as officers continued with the investigation.
On March 30, 2025, shortly before 3:50 a.m., a 39-year-old Township of Hamilton man was taken into custody without incident, reported OPP.
A search warrant was subsequently executed at the address where a number of firearms and ammunition were allegedly seized.
As a result of the investigation, police said the individual was charged with pointing a firearm, assault with a weapon – spousal, assault causing bodily harm – spousal, two counts of assault – spousal, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief – destroys or damages property, and two counts of careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
Victims of domestic violence are not alone, stressed OPP.
