A 70-year-old Cobourg man is facing impaired driving charges after police say they responded to a report of a vehicle stuck in a ditch.
The Cobourg Police Service said police responded to the call during the early morning hours Friday, April 11 in the Brook Road South and Lakeshore Road area. Police allege that the driver failed a roadside alcohol screening test.
No injuries were reported.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 70-year-old Cobourg man was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol, and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus.)
None of these charges have been proven in court. The accused was released with a future court date, reported police.
The Cobourg Police Service is continuing to call on motorists to plan ahead before getting behind the wheel – and on the public to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911, stressing that impaired driving remains the leading criminal cause of death and injury in Canada.
