Downtown Cobourg is set to welcome the spotlight as filming for a new television series, The Greatest, begins at the end of April.
The series, a spin-off of the 1977 feature film about boxing legend Muhammad Ali, will be filmed by Reunion MA Production Inc. Production crews will prepare downtown locations starting April 21, with filming day scheduled for Wednesday, April 30, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Key filming will take place inside and outside Victoria Hall and along King Street between Third and Hibernia streets, which will be closed for a parade scene. Residents can expect to see American flags and bunting outside of Victoria Hall during the week, though displays will be kept up only as needed.
“This is an exciting way to strengthen our local economy while keeping Cobourg on the map as a premier filming destination,” said Mayor Lucas Cleveland. “Each production supports local businesses and showcases the unique charm of our town to audiences far and wide.”
Approximately 150 Canadian crew members and 200 paid background actors will be involved, with all hotel accommodations booked locally. A community casting call is expected for unpaid walk-ons during the parade scene.
Filming vehicle parking has been designated in the Albert Street Lot, Marina Lot, and Campground between April 21 and May 2.
