A 36-year-old man from Cobourg was arrested Saturday afternoon after being found in violation of his bail conditions during a routine traffic stop.
On April 18, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers from the Cobourg Police Service on general patrol observed a vehicle on Division Street with an equipment issue, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. Police initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver.
Upon investigation, officers determined the man was subject to a release order requiring him to remain at his residence unless accompanied by his surety. As he was alone at the time, he was placed under arrest for failing to comply with the order.
In addition to the bail violation under the Criminal Code, the driver was also charged with several Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act offences, including:
Plate improperly displayed
No validation on plate
Failing to surrender a driver’s licence
Failing to surrender proof of insurance
Failing to notify the Ministry of Transportation of a change of address
The accused was held for a Show Cause Hearing and has been remanded into custody.
Police are reminding the public that court-ordered release conditions must be strictly followed to avoid further legal consequences.
