The Municipality of Port Hope has appointed Mike Melinyshyn as its new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), effective June 2.
Melinyshyn is a Chartered Professional Accountant with more than two decades of leadership experience in the public and private sectors. He most recently served as Chief Financial Officer and Director of Corporate Services and Innovation for the Town of Innisfil and also held the role of Interim CAO there.
“We are very excited to welcome Mike to the Port Hope family,” said Mayor Olena Hankivsky. “The breadth and depth of his experience, along with his innovative mindset and leadership skills, ideally position him to lead the municipality into an exciting new chapter.”
Melinyshyn’s background includes chairing economic development boards and working closely with colleges to help businesses adopt advanced technologies. He holds a Master of Management in Artificial Intelligence from Queen’s University and an MBA from McMaster University.
He says he’s grateful and excited to join a progressive council and committed staff in Port Hope.
“Opportunity abounds in Port Hope, and I look forward to helping navigate the municipality’s future growth through collaboration and innovation,” he said.
The search for a permanent CAO was supported by Feldman Daxon Partners Inc.
Interim CAO Tonia Bennett will conclude her role at the end of May. Mayor Hankivsky thanked Bennett for her steady leadership during the transition.
