Cobourg Police Service has concluded its April Selective Traffic Enforcement Project (STEP), which focused on reducing speeding on local roads.
The month-long initiative aimed to improve road safety for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians through education, engagement, and enforcement.
According to a release issued Friday, the April STEP campaign resulted in 27 speeding tickets being issued. Police also laid additional charges for various traffic offences, including driving under suspension, operating a vehicle without insurance, driving without a licence, using a hand-held communication device while driving, and obstructing a licence plate.
STEP is a monthly program targeting specific traffic safety concerns in the Town of Cobourg. Each month, a different issue is selected based on traffic data, public feedback, and observed trends.
Cobourg Police encourage all drivers to obey posted speed limits and traffic laws as part of a shared responsibility to keep roads safe for everyone.
