The hit Canadian television show Murdoch Mysteries is back in Northumberland County this week – but this time, it’s not just Cobourg getting the camera treatment.
From May 5 to 8, cast and crew from Shaftesbury Murdoch XIX Inc. will be filming scenes for Season 19 of Murdoch Mysteries at a private residence in Grafton, in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand. According to the township, the shoot is part of the show’s upcoming season, which is tentatively scheduled to air this fall.
While filming in Cobourg is relatively common for the popular detective drama set in early 20th-century Toronto, this marks a unique opportunity for Grafton residents to see a production unfold in their own backyard.
Basecamp for the production has been set up near the Haldimand Community Memorial Arena, with some space in the parking lot still available for those using nearby sports fields.
“We encourage residents to give a warm community welcome to all visiting crew members,” said Alnwick/Haldimand CAO and Fire Chief Dave Dawson.
Residents may notice an uptick in traffic and activity near the film site and arena over the next few days.
Questions about the production can be directed to township staff. For updates, visit ahtwp.ca or contact the municipal office.
The long-running series, starring Yannick Bisson as Detective William Murdoch, is known for using historical Ontario locations to re-create the show’s late 1800s and early 1900s setting.
