Allergy season has arrived in Ontario, and for many residents, that means the return of sneezing, itchy eyes, and runny noses.
With tree pollen levels already climbing and grass pollens soon to follow, health experts say this spring could be particularly difficult for those with seasonal allergies. Warmer temperatures and shifting weather patterns are contributing to a longer and more intense allergy season, leaving many Ontarians reaching for tissues and antihistamines earlier than usual.
We spoke with Daniel Coates, Director at the Aerobiology Research Laboratories, about what residents in Eastern Ontario are feeling right now.
If you’ve noticed some good weeks and some not-so-good ones, you’re not alone. It’s already been a memorable start to allergy season, with Mother Nature giving us a rollercoaster of warm and cool temperatures.
The Aerobiology Research Laboratories has been collecting daily pollen data for nearly 35 years.
If you’ve noticed your allergies getting worse as time goes on, Coates says global warming is playing a big factor in that.
He knows some people are struggling with allergies right now, so he is offering some tips.
