Residents in Cobourg, Port Hope and Brighton can expect municipal closures and service changes for the Victoria Day holiday on Monday, May 19, 2025.
All three municipalities will have municipal offices closed for the day. Cobourg Transit will operate on its regular schedule, while transit in Port Hope and Brighton will not run on the holiday Monday. Services across all communities resume Tuesday.
In Cobourg, several facilities will also be closed, including Victoria Hall, the Community Centre, Public Library, Venture13 and Public Works. Cobourg residents can look forward to a long weekend of family fun, including Despicable Me 4 screening outdoors at Rotary Harbourfront Park on Saturday, May 17, at 8:30 p.m. Fireworks will follow at approximately 10 p.m. Weather updates will be posted by Experience Cobourg.
In Port Hope, recreation facilities and libraries will either be closed or have modified hours. The Jack Burger Sports Complex pool is open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday. Burn permits are required for rural open-air fires and can now be issued online. Only recreational fires are allowed in urban areas.
In Brighton, municipal offices will also be closed Monday. Note that fireworks are permitted up to three days before and on Victoria Day, as long as they’re set off safely and away from dry grass and buildings.
For burn and fireworks rules, residents are urged to check local by-laws and fire safety tips before celebrating.
Be safe and have a great Victoria Day long weekend!
