Speeding continues to be a concern on roads across the East Region OPP catchment area following enforcement efforts during Canada Road Safety Week.
According to OPP, initial results indicate more than 2,500 charges were laid across the region, with 1,303 of those charges related to speeding during the education and enforcement campaign.
The effort involved members across all East Region detachments, in addition to the highway safety division, and placed an emphasis on traffic and road safety ahead of the busier summer travel season.
From May 13 to 19, there were also an additional 38 stunt driving charges laid.
Meanwhile, other behaviours also continue to be of concern, with 47 impaired driving charges laid and 26 careless driving charges dished out, in addition to 71 distracted driving charges laid.
There were another 151 charges relating to failing to have insurance and/or improper insurance, and eight driving while prohibited charges.
Police are continuing to call on all motorists to make road safety their No. 1 priority, stressing lives depend on it.
Regular enforcement efforts are ongoing, and police continue to ask citizens to report dangerous driving or suspected impaired driving by calling 911.
