Northumberland Paramedics demonstate life-saving innovation as part of Paramedic Services Week.
During Wednesday’s County Council meeting, paramedics ran a full-scale emergency simulation, demonstrating a new automated, hands-free CPR device that will become standard on all local ambulances starting this summer.
The mock scenario included traditional interventions like CPR and public AED use, as well as advanced treatments and equipment available to frontline responders. At the centre of the demonstration was the automated CPR unit – a device designed to deliver consistent, high-quality chest compressions without interruption.
“This advanced technology represents another step forward in strengthening the chain of survival,” said Chief of Northumberland Paramedics Susan Brown. “It ensures our teams can continue delivering the highest level of care, even in the most complex situations, ultimately improving patient outcomes across our region.”
The hands-free system is especially useful in tight or moving environments, such as during transport or rescue from confined spaces, helping paramedics stay safe while giving patients the best chance at recovery.
County Warden Brian Ostrander praised the demonstration and the team behind it.
“Thank you to our paramedics for today’s impactful demonstration, and for your truly impressive work across our predominantly rural community,” Ostrander said. “We commend you for staying on the leading edge of technology.”
Paramedic Services Week highlighted the critical role paramedics play in emergency care and community safety.
