Northumberland’s Run Forest Run trail race is back on Sunday, June 8, giving runners four unique ways to explore the forest on foot.
The event features four themed challenges named after characters from Forrest Gump. Participants can loop a 3K trail as many times as they can in four hours with The Jenny, race a hilly 7.5K trail in The Lieutenant Dan, or enjoy a more relaxed 9K loop in The Bubba.
Organizer Rod Simpson tells us support for the run continues to grow.
The ultimate challenge is The Full Gump, a 24.6-kilometre adventure that combines all three courses with an out-and-back run to Lookout Mountain.
The race is self-supported, meaning runners must bring their own water and supplies. No dogs are allowed on course, and participants are encouraged to carry a phone or whistle for safety.
Simpson tells us where the proceeds will go.
Organisers say the trail system includes Purple Finch, Black Oak, and Sweet Fern, and while most routes are closed to motor vehicles, some areas may see occasional traffic.
Costumes are welcome, and the “Gumpiest” runner will take home a fun trophy.
While race fees have not increased from last year, the registration form now includes a single, all-in price to reflect new online pricing rules. No refunds are available, but entries may be transferable if organizers are notified in advance.
