A 57-year-old man from Whitby has been charged with impaired driving after an incident on Highway 401 early Sunday morning.
Officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say they received a traffic complaint around 6:45 a.m. on June 8 about a silver van travelling eastbound at a high speed near the Morrish church overpass. Witnesses reported that the vehicle nearly caused two separate collisions.
Police located the van shortly afterward and conducted a traffic stop near Toronto Road. The driver was arrested and charged with two offences:
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in August.
