Residents can fish for free across Ontario this weekend, with no licence required on June 14 and 15 in celebration of Father’s Day.
“This Father’s Day weekend, take the opportunity to head outdoors, cast a line and create lasting memories with the people who matter most,” said Mike Harris, minister of natural resources. “It’s a great way to enjoy Ontario’s lakes and rivers while supporting the communities and businesses that depend on recreational fishing.”
In Northumberland, anglers can enjoy fishing in local favourites like Rice Lake, the Trent and Ganaraska Rivers or Lake Ontario, with opportunities to catch species such as smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike and yellow perch.
While licences aren’t required this weekend, all conservation licence catch and size limits, as well as local regulations and sanctuaries, remain in effect. Government-issued ID showing name and date of birth must be carried.
This marks the third of four free fishing opportunities in Ontario this year, with Family Fishing Week coming up June 28 to July 6.
Recreational fishing contributes over $1.75 billion to Ontario’s economy annually and is a popular tradition in communities across the province.
