Automated licence plate recognition (ALPR) technology has helped Northumberland OPP with a suspended driving investigation.
Police said on Monday, June 23, 2025, at about 8:30 a.m., an officer was conducting stationary traffic patrol on King Street East in Colborne. Equipped with an automated licence plate recognition device, the technology indicated a hit about a possible suspended driver operating an SUV travelling eastbound, reported OPP.
Following a vehicle stop and subsequent investigation, police said a 42-year-old driver from Brighton was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with two counts of driving while under suspension and driving with no currently validated permit.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused will appear in Cobourg court in August, reported OPP.
