Cobourg Police dealt with a range of incidents in recent days, including arrests for shoplifting, drug possession, intimate partner violence and a robbery involving violence at a downtown business.
On Sunday, June 22, police responded to four separate reports of shoplifting at a business on Division Street. Two men from Cobourg and a woman from Hamilton Township were charged with theft and possession under $5,000. They were released with future court dates. A fourth person, a woman from Cobourg, was charged under the Trespass to Property Act for engaging in prohibited activity.
The following morning, officers on patrol near King and Division Streets asked a group of people to leave an area clearly marked with “no trespassing” signs. During the interaction, one individual was found with suspected fentanyl. A 41-year-old Cobourg woman was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance and breach of recognizance. She was released on an undertaking.
Later that day, around 3:20 p.m., officers with the Safer Streets Cobourg initiative heard a disturbance at a nearby business. A 27-year-old Cobourg woman had reportedly tried to steal merchandise and bit a staff member who intervened. She was charged with robbery with violence, resisting arrest and probation violations and was held for a bail hearing.
Also on Monday, police responded to a report of an assault in a Cobourg home. A 38-year-old man was arrested after allegedly pushing and assaulting the victim. He remains in custody pending a show cause hearing.
Cobourg Police say they remain committed to ensuring community safety through proactive patrols and swift response to reported incidents.
