The Port Hope Racquet Club is receiving a major boost from the Ontario government, with more than $680,000 in funding to upgrade and expand its tennis facilities.
Announced by Northumberland-Peterborough South MPP David Piccini, the $682,239 investment will help the club grow from three courts to four, renovate existing facilities, and add a seasonal structure for year-round use. The funding comes from the province’s $200 million Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF), which supports the revitalization of local recreation facilities across Ontario.
Piccini said the investment helps improve access to sport and promotes healthy, active living in the community. Minister of Sport Neil Lumsden also noted that the initiative helps protect local jobs while providing children and youth with new opportunities to stay active.
Mayor Olena Hankivsky praised the collaboration between the Municipality of Port Hope and the Port Hope Racquet Club, calling the project a meaningful step forward for sport accessibility and community health. She thanked the province for its support and said the upgrades will strengthen Port Hope’s ability to host sporting events year-round.
Club president Gillian Smith-Clark echoed those sentiments, saying the upgraded facilities will help promote fitness and connection across all ages in Northumberland.
The CSRIF is part of the government’s broader plan to invest in Ontario’s infrastructure, economy, and community resilience.
