Port Hope residents should prepare for temporary road closures, transit detours, and limited water service as the Walton Street Reconstruction Project enters a key milestone.
On Thursday, August 7, 2025, crews will complete the final water system connection at the intersection of Cavan and Walton Streets. To safely perform the work, closures will begin at 7:00 a.m. and include:
Cavan Street, from south of the parking lot to Walton Street (residential access maintained)
Walton Street, from Cavan Street to John Street
Brewery Lane, closed to traffic, with emergency access maintained
Select buildings will experience a temporary water shut-off from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Affected residents have received advance notice and are advised to draw water ahead of time and keep taps closed during the interruption.
Transit service will also be impacted:
Route A will detour via Ontario, Barrett, Cavan, and South Streets (no stops affected)
Route B will detour north on Ontario and resume its regular route on Mill Street (Stops B2, B3, B4 out of service)
The closure is expected to last one to two days. Roads will reopen once the work is complete and safe for traffic.
