The Cobourg Police Service says they’re investigating a break and enter that occurred on August 21 in the area of Walton Street and University Avenue East.
Police say a female suspect approached the front door of a residence and allegedly distracted the homeowner. While she was speaking with the resident, a second suspect entered the house through a side door and stole valuables. Both suspects then left the scene in a dark-coloured sport utility vehicle.
Officers were called to the area and are canvassing the neighbourhood for witnesses and any available video footage that may assist with the investigation.
Police are reminding residents to take precautions, including keeping doors locked and being cautious of strangers who come to the door. They stress that distraction techniques are a common method used by thieves to gain entry into homes and target valuables.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity around Walton Street and University Avenue East on Thursday, or who may have surveillance footage from the area, to contact Cobourg Police. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
