Cobourg has officially launched its first-ever Community Led Task Force to help shape the town’s 2026 operating budget.
Mayor Lucas Cleveland introduced some of the members of the task force and the chair, David Dexter at Town Hall on Wednesday September 10, 2025, calling it a historic opportunity to bring community voices into municipal financial planning.
Cleveland says the group of volunteers was chosen to give fresh perspectives on how the town manages its finances.
Cleveland says the task force will review Cobourg’s finances over several weeks and present recommendations to the mayor and council later this fall.
Heading the task force is David Dexter, a veteran of municipal finance. Dexter says the members will meet throughout September and October to study Cobourg’s fiscal challenges and opportunities.
Dexter says the group’s final report will be delivered to the mayor in mid-November to help inform the 2026 budget.
According to Cleveland, the task force is also about engaging residents in the bigger picture of what Cobourg can afford and what residents value most in municipal services.
More information about the task force and its public updates will be posted on the Town of Cobourg’s website as the work progresses in the coming weeks.
