Cobourg’s Pebble Beach neighbourhood faces two nights of overnight closures and intermittent power outages as the Town continues its King Street West culvert replacement project. Vehicle access restrictions and electrical service disruptions will occur from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. tonight and tomorrow night, affecting residents just west of Suzanne Mess Boulevard.
Local resident Ken Strauss says they were informed on Tuesday but doesn’t understand why the work is taking so long.
The Town of Cobourg Public Works and Engineering Division says vehicle access restrictions and electrical service disruptions will occur from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. both nights. \
This phase of construction involves installing the northern half of the new culvert. Limited space for crane operations and delivery of large culvert components will affect both electricity service and vehicle access in the immediate area.
We spoke to Mayor Lucas Cleveland about the work being done.
According to the Town, local residents have already received construction notices outlining details of the disruptions, including how emergency services will be maintained. Departments across the municipality are coordinating to provide accommodations for residents during the work.
This project is part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades designed to improve drainage and road safety along King Street West. Once the northern section of the culvert is complete, crews will return in the coming weeks to install the southern portion. A separate notice will be issued before that stage begins.
More information, including a map of the affected area, is available through the Town’s Public Works and Engineering Division.
