Two Caledon residents are facing serious charges after Northumberland OPP says police responded to a stolen tractor-trailer report.
On Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025, police issued a release saying on Sept. 29, at about 6:20 a.m., police responded to a report of a tractor-trailer believed to have been stolen from Cornwall, which was travelling westbound on Hwy. 401 from Belleville.
“OPP attempted to stop the vehicle, but it failed to comply and exited the highway at County Road 25 in the Township of Cramahe,” said police, adding officers caught up with the vehicle shortly after the driver had stopped the tractor-trailer spanning the roadway.
Two people allegedly fled on foot but both of the accused were taken into custody shortly afterwards, with the canine unit also dispatched to help with a search of the vehicle, reported OPP.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 25-year-old Caledon resident was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, theft over $5,000, two counts of possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000, mischief under $5,000, possession of break-in instruments, dangerous operation, flight from a peace officer, and resisting a peace officer.
Another 21-year-old Caledon resident was also charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of break-in instruments, theft over $5,000, mischief under $5,000, two counts of possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and resisting a peace officer, reported OPP.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
